World Milk Day

Celebrate World Milk Day annually on 1 June!

World Milk Day highlights the benefits of dairy for health and nutrition while recognising the industry’s role in supporting jobs, communities and global economies. Celebrate the impact of Aussie milk and the hard work of dairy farmers!

In 2001, World Milk Day was established by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations to recognise the importance of milk as a global food and to celebrate the dairy sector. Every year since, the benefits of milk and dairy products have been actively promoted around the world, including how dairy supports the livelihoods of one billion people.

Dairy plays a vital role in delivering quality nutrition to nourish the world. It’s accessible, affordable and nutrient-dense and an essential part of balanced diets across the world.

Each year, Aussie dairy celebrates these contributions that dairy farmers and milk makes and encourages the community to participate in acknowledging and giving thanks to Aussie milk.

World Milk Day 2026

This World Milk Day, Australian Dairy is proud to celebrate the women behind your morning milk, recognising the vital role women farmers play in producing the fresh, nutritious milk enjoyed by Australians every day.

From the first splash on your cereal to your morning coffee, post-workout smoothie or a glass shared at the table, milk is part of everyday life for many Australians. It is a simple, nourishing staple found in fridges across the country.

Behind every glass is the work of dedicated dairy farmers. Across Australia, women are at the heart of dairy farming, starting early on the farm and helping manage the day-to-day running of the business to ensure fresh milk reaches homes every day.

Many women in dairy also balance life on farm with family, careers and roles in their local communities. Whether working as nurses, teachers, business owners or pursuing other passions, their contribution extends well beyond the farm gate.

World Milk Day is a chance to celebrate these women, share their stories and recognise the care and commitment behind every glass of milk.
