On Australian farms, the number of cows can range from a few hundred to over a thousand!

On Australian farms, the number of cows can be really different depending on the size of the farm.

  • Some small family farms might only have 100–200 cows.
  • Bigger farms can have 1,000 cows or more!
  • On average, most Australian dairy farms have about 250–300 cows.

So the answer is: it can be anywhere from a few hundred to a thousand or more, but they all play a part in keeping the country stocked with fresh dairy.
