Pyengana perfection
In the Pyengana Valley of north-east Tasmania, discover award-winning cheddar, paddock to plate platters and 130 years of tradition.
The Pyengana Dairy Company has been crafting award-winning traditional cheddars in north-east Tasmania for generations. Pyengana comes from an Aboriginal word meaning ‘the meeting of two rivers,’ a name that reflects the lush valley where dairy farming has thrived for over a century.
Known as the home of Australia’s heritage farmhouse cheese, Pyengana continues a 130-year tradition of handcrafted cheesemaking. Visitors can watch the process firsthand, sample the range, and enjoy a platter overlooking the farm for a true paddock-to-plate experience. All milk is sourced from a single herd, ensuring quality from the ground up.
The café serves fresh milkshakes, cakes, tasting boards and locally made produce, best paired with Tasmanian wine, beer or cider. Just nearby, the spectacular St Columba Falls adds to the experience, while Pyengana’s central location makes it an easy and memorable stop on any Tasmanian journey.
