From farm to flavour

At Bassine Specialty Cheeses in Glen Forbes, taste award-winning artisan cheeses, sip farm-fresh milk, indulge in authentic gelato and see cheesemaking up close on a working dairy farm.

Bassine Specialty Cheeses traces its roots to the Bisognin family farm, established in 1966. What began as a hobby for Kaye Courtney has since grown into a thriving business, with Glen Bisognin and head cheesemaker Tone Petersen now crafting award-winning cheeses enjoyed across the region.

Located on the family’s 235-acre property, the small factory sources milk from its own herd as well as neighbouring family farms. That same milk is bottled under the Bass River Dairies label, producing non-homogenised whole milk and cream that have already received gold medal recognition.

Visitors can experience Bassine firsthand at the farm shop and café. Artisan cheese platters, snacks, drinks, local products and authentic gelato are all on offer, with viewing windows providing a glimpse into cheesemaking in action.

Bassine represents the spirit of Gippsland’s dairy tradition: a place to slow down, savour regional flavours and share in the warmth of Australia’s dairy heritage.
