Supporting healthy dietary and lifestyle habits throughout life can help maintain healthy blood glucose, blood pressure, blood lipid levels, and body weight, reducing the risk of long-term disease and improving overall wellbeing.

A meta-analysis of 22 studies found no adverse effect of total dairy consumption on weight-related measures. Yoghurt showed possible beneficial effects.

In DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension, an evidence-based diet), dairy is a core food group, not an optional extra:
- Consumed daily (typically 2–3 serves/day)
- Primarily low-fat or fat-free
Dairy provides multiple nutrients that support vascular health:
- Calcium: vascular contraction and relaxation
- Potassium: helps counteract sodium in blood pressure regulation
