Meet Meg from Westbury, Tasmania

From festive bales to funny farm fails.

In Westbury, Tasmania, Meg Lawrence starts her farm days with the glow of sunrise and the pitter patter of her cows’ hooves. Whether it’s leading the second herd at first light or soaking up golden hour in the evening, these moments are what she treasures most. “Everything’s reasonably peaceful and you can just admire the cows and the view over the farm,” she says.

For Meg, dairy farming has always felt like home. “I’ve always loved cows and being on the farm,” she shares. Her bond with her herd runs deep, but none more so than Emme, her favourite cow. “She’s the daughter of my old pet cow, Jess, who I had when I was younger.”

Farm life is never short on stories. “I think everyone would say the funniest thing was when I got pooped on the head in front of a whole class,” she happily admits. But it’s in the quieter moments that Meg feels the biggest reward.

“Looking out over the cows in their night paddock, happily chewing their cuds, content and producing beautiful milk—that’s when I feel the proudest,” she says.

Behind the scenes, Meg relies on her essentials to keep everything running smoothly. “My plate metre,” she says without hesitation. It’s a simple yet vital tool for managing grazing and keeping her herd happy and healthy by ensuring they receive the nutrition they need each day.

Christmas brings its own charm to the farm, with decorated hay bales and Meg donning a Santa hat while making her rounds. “We’ve started decorating Christmas bales in the last couple of years,” she explains. “And we generally go around wearing Christmas hats to do our jobs on Christmas Day.”

For Meg, it’s the perfect mix: happy cows, festive traditions and her daily hot chocolate to top it all off. It’s everything she loves about farm life.

“Looking out over the cows in their night paddock, happily chewing their cuds, content and producing beautiful milk—that’s when I feel the proudest.”
