Yoghurt naturally contains the sugar, lactose. Some may contain added sugar which can take many forms such as fruit puree, honey or cane sugar.

The variety of both plain and flavoured yoghurt products on the market gives people the ability to choose the one that suits them best.

It's added sugar that has been shown to have adverse effects on health however the science does not show this to be the case when it’s part of core dairy foods such as milk and yoghurt.

Dairy Australia is engaging with manufacturers to identify how we can make sugar labelling more meaningful so consumers can determine how much sugar is added, and how much is naturally occurring.
