Are bobby calves sold and used for veal or for processed food and baby food?

Bobby calves may be used for veal or other food products.

Bobby calves (mostly male calves) are generally sent to a saleyard or abattoir at five days or older. Many of these calves are used for veal or other foods which may include processed meat products.

These food products are subject to the same food safety checks and traceability as all other Australian beef products, and are therefore safe for consumption. Check with the product’s manufacturer on the source of their meat if you have questions.
