Australian dairy manufacturers adjust the types of products they make over time, including evaporated and condensed milk, to ensure they remain profitable and sustainable.
Australian milk is processed into a wide range of products for both domestic and overseas consumption. In recent years the domestic market has grown while milk production has remained stable. This has caused dairy manufacturers to focus on producing the highest value products, to ensure they’re able to pay competitive milk prices and maintain farmer profitability, ensuring milk supply.
Australia is an open economy linked to global markets. This may mean for some companies it is more economical to source some products from overseas, allowing Australian milk to be utilised for products that generate a higher return either domestically or in export markets.
