Is there added sugar in milk?
No there is no added sugar in plain milk. Plain milk contains about 5g of total sugar per 100g. This is the sugar found naturally in milk (lactose).
Most dairy foods contain the naturally occurring sugar, lactose. A quick look at a food product label will show that plain milk and most plain yoghurts contain approximately 5g of sugar per 100g (which is lactose).
Flavoured milks and yoghurts contain differing amounts of added sugar, which can take many forms such as fruit or honey or cane sugar and/or artificial/natural sweeteners. Anything added to milk, or any other dairy product, must be named in the ingredients list on the label.
