Inspiring the next generation of dairy industry professionals

Cows Create Careers is a hands-on, interactive program that opens students' eyes to the diverse career opportunities within Australia’s dairy industry.

Run by Jaydee Events with support from Dairy Australia, this free initiative gives schools everything they need: young calves, engaging resources, and mentorship from industry professionals to bring learning to life.

Through practical experience and classroom learning, students gain valuable insights into animal husbandry, dairy production, and the wide range of careers in the industry, including veterinary science, agribusiness, and food technology. Career advisors play a key role in guiding students toward these opportunities, helping them explore potential pathways, build essential skills, and make confident choices about their futures.

Targeting students from Years 5–11, Cows Create Careers empowers teachers—regardless of their agricultural background—to engage students in a structured, easy-to-deliver program. High school students develop both technical and transferable skills by caring for a calf, conducting research, and working on curriculum-aligned projects, all while interacting with passionate industry advocates who showcase the many career possibilities in dairy.

Program objectives

• Introduce students to both vocational and university pathways in the dairy industry.
• Engage dairy farmers and industry professionals to mentor and inspire students.
• Support students in making career decisions by creating direct links to education and employment sectors.
• Reward student and school achievements at the program’s conclusion.

What’s involved?

✔ Calves on campus – dairy farmers deliver two calves for a three-week period.
✔ Fully funded resources – schools receive supplies and curriculum materials at no cost.
✔ Industry mentorship – an industry advocate speaks to students in person or online.
✔ Collaborative learning – students work in teams of 2–5 to complete assessment tasks.
✔ Exciting finale event – a live-streamed awards ceremony recognizes top students and schools.
✔ Media exposure – schools gain local and national media coverage throughout the project.
