Traditional Golden Buttercake

A golden buttercake is a must-have in your recipe repertoire. It can be served simply for afternoon tea or filled with cream and berries, stacked and iced with buttercream to make a birthday cake, or made into vanilla cupcakes.

Ingredients

125g butter
1 cup caster sugar
3 eggs
1 cup self-raising flour, sifted
1/3 cup milk
cinnamon, for sprinkling
caster sugar, extra

Method

  1. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Gradually beat in eggs. Fold in flour alternately with milk.
  2. Spoon batter into a buttered and lined 23cm cake tin. Bake at 18°0C for 45-50 minutes.
  3. Serve sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar.
