Fat Content Myths Print

Research has shown that around 40% of women aged 30-54 are concerned that eating dairy foods will cause them to gain weight .

This is mainly because (as our research shows below), so many women overestimate the fat content of dairy - milk and yogurt in particular. As a result they tend to cut these out of their diets and as a result miss out on important nutrients - as well as the enjoyment of such a delicious and easy food!

Milk MYTH:
Women believe regular milk contains, on average, a whopping 22% fat1

Milk TRUTH:
Regular (or whole) milk only contains around 3.8% fat2!

Yogurt MYTH:
Women think regular, natural yogurt contains on average 20% fat1

Yogurt TRUTH:
The good news is it’s only around 3.4% fat2!

Including 3 serves of dairy each day as part of a healthy diet is ideal, regardless of whether you are watching your weight or not. Dairy is an important source of more than 10 essential nutrients, including calcium and protein.

There are a variety of choices of milk, cheese and yogurt in the dairy case, including regular, reduced-fat, low-fat and skim options.

For those of you now thinking about morning tea or lunch - yogurt makes a wonderful snack and a glass of milk is great with lunch…..and don’t forget a regular-size latte is equivalent to almost one serve of dairy!
