INDUSTRIAL CHEMIST
Industrial Chemists study and apply the physical and chemical properties of substances
to determine their composition. They use this information to develop new substances,
processes and products and to increase scientific knowledge.
Industrial Chemists may perform the following tasks:
- Conduct experiments to identify chemical composition and study chemical changes
which occur in natural substances and processed materials
- Undertake research and analysis to develop and test theories, techniques and
processes
- Take part in the marketing and research of process or product development.
SCOPE:
The major employers of Industrial Chemists are private and government research
institutions. Other employers are food and beverage producers.
COURSES AND TRAINING:
The minimum requirement for entry to this occupation is the completion of a degree
course with a major study in Chemistry. Normal entry to degree courses is Year 12
with English and other prerequisite studies. Alternative entry may be available.
