ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH OFFICER
Environmental Health Officers promote good health, hygiene and environmental practices.
They regulate, enforce and monitor laws and regulations governing public health and
environmental management. They may perform other duties involving planning assessment
and building control.
Environmental Health Officers may perform the following tasks:
- Assess and comment on building and development applications for compliance with
environmental and health matters
- Investigate complaints about environmental health matters
- Assess premises
SCOPE:
Environmental Health Officers are employed by local councils, private sector and
State and Federal Government departments of health and environmental protection
agencies.
COURSES AND TRAINING:
Entry to this occupation usually requires a degree. Satisfactory completion of Year
12, including English and other prerequisite studies, is required for entry to a
Bachelor of Applied Science (Environmental Health) which is a pre-requisite for
accreditation. Mature age and special entry provisions for the course may be
available. Check with the appropriate institution.
