MARKETING MANAGER
A Marketing Manager's role is to develop short and long term strategy plans for products
to envisage the how, why and when of customer purchase. To do this successfully, the
Marketing Manager has a team of individuals to manage the more specific sections such
as research/data, customer service, and product and brand management.
Marketing Manager's work includes:
- Managing/supervising a team
- Preparing strategic and direct marketing plans
- Reviewing the success of previous campaigns
- Gauging consumer demands
- Reporting to other sectors of the company of latest developments
- Overseeing and directing media campaigns/press releases
SCOPE:
Marketing Managers can be found working in these areas although the job titles may
vary slightly from firm to firm:
- Australian Dairy Corporation
- Milk manufacturers and processors of products such as cheese, butter, yoghurt
and milk powder.
COURSES AND TRAINING:
Marketing Managers have a Degree in Marketing. Many universities offer Marketing
degrees. There are also a number of TAFEs that offer diploma courses in Marketing.
Roles like Marketing Manager are then acquired via experience. On obtaining their
Degree, most graduates start out as an Officer, then an Executive in one of the
many marketing related areas like product, data base, direct marketing, or research.
Once they have gained experience, they will often be appointed as an Assistant
Manager, then a Manager of these areas. With additional experience, such individuals
may be given the opportunity to become an Assistant Marketing Manager prior to their
appointment as Marketing Manager.
