MILKING MACHINE TECHNICIAN
A Milking Machine Technician is involved in a wide range of milk harvesting
processes.
These include:
- installation, assessment and servicing of milking equipment
- estimation of materials, equipment and labour costs as required
- interaction with other industrial people on a regular basis, e.g. dairy farmers,
equipment manufacturers and company representatives
- supervision of workshop activities, such as fabrication, repair and maintenance
of equipment and machinery
SCOPE:
Priority skills areas for working as a Milking Machine Technician include knowledge
of workplace health and safety, milking processes, using chemicals, equipment
assessment and servicing, estimating and supervising work activities, written and
verbal communication. Milking Machine Technicians mainly find employment in milk
harvesting centres.
COURSES AND TRAINING:
Most Milking Machine Technicians have either participated in the Milk Harvesting
Apprenticeship pathway or entered the industry at this level with a background in
electrical, plumbing or related trades.
