EXPORTER/IMPORTER
Exporters and Importers sell and buy goods, such as raw materials, foodstuffs and
manufactured goods produced in Australia for export markets, or produced overseas
for import markets.
Exporters and Importers may perform the following tasks:
- Supervise and coordinate the marketing activities of overseas distributors/agents
and assist in administrative, sales and marketing functions
- Discuss orders and arrange for the production of goods with suppliers and
distributors
- Monitor the performance of the business and prepare financial statements and
report on export-import operations
SCOPE:
The majority of people with export marketing skills work for major dairy companies.
However, there are a number of specialist export/import companies which offer career
opportunities.
COURSES AND TRAINING:
Training is usually provided on the job, however opportunities for formally qualified
staff are increasing. New entrants usually commence in the distribution or sales area
of a firm. Training varies according to the size of the firm and the products traded.
Most people need 5 years of experience in the less complex areas such as distribution
or sales to develop basic knowledge and skills.
