ECONOMIST
An Economist develops models, analyses markets and investigates alternative options for
an individual farm, company or industry sector.
An Economist may:
- Collect data and prepare reports
- Be a member of a team developing policy on future marketing options or
alternatives for land use
- Provide advice to industry bodies, politicians and government ministers
SCOPE:
Economists are widely employed in government departments at state and federal levels,
farmer and industry organisations, manufacturing companies, banking industry,
marketing organisations and consultancy companies.
COURSES AND TRAINING:
A degree in commerce and or agricultural economics is required for a person wishing
to enter a career in agricultural economics. Students wishing to specialise in
agricultural economics should check with their university about the availability of
suitable units.
