TRANSPORT ADMINISTRATOR
Transport Administrators plan, organise and control the operational activities in
road, rail, air or water transport. They also participate in formulating policies
to ensure the efficient handling of freight and the best use of transport
equipment.
Transport Administrators may perform the following tasks:
- Formulate transport operating policy
- Devise or approve methods and procedures for operating freight services, time
schedules and routes
- Review freight rate structures where these are not controlled by government
agencies and transport associations
SCOPE:
Transport Administrators are employed by dairy companies to arrange milk pick up from
farms, transport of finished goods to warehouses and distribution to customers,
nationally and internationally.
COURSES AND TRAINING:
Employers generally require a minimum of Year 11 standard with preference given to
holders of the VCE or a tertiary qualification.Training may be provided on the job,
but intending applicants should consider undertaking an appropriate formal course on
a full time or part time basis. Computer skills will be required as computer programs
are used to plan transport, identify where the product is stored and to produce
required documentation.
