PURCHASING OFFICER
Purchasing Officers plan for and schedule the delivery of goods and services required by
their employers, whether industrial, commercial or government establishments.
Purchasing Officers may perform the following tasks:
- Establish reliable sources to supply goods and services
- Attend sales demonstrations
- Inspect supplier operations at their work place or on-site
- Preview product catalogues and trade journals
- Check incoming goods against purchase order
SCOPE:
Purchasing Officers are employed in the manufacturing, service and retail dairy
sectors. Employment opportunities depend on the rate of growth in business and
industry.
COURSES AND TRAINING:
There are no specific educational requirements for entry to this occupation, however,
most employers prefer applicants who have completed Year 11. Training may be provided
on the job and a range of courses is also available. Entry to most courses requires
the satisfactory completion of Year 12 including English. Mature age and special
entry provisions may also be available.
