DAIRY FARMHAND
The Dairy Farmhand will be involved in a wide range of farming activities.
Work undertaken by a Dairy Farmhand includes:
- Fencing, irrigation and farm maintenance
- Pest control and application of agricultural chemicals
- Testing procedures and administrative duties
- Handling, moving and management of livestock
- Milking
- Operating farm vehicles machinery and equipment
- Implementation of pasture and fodder management plans.
SCOPE:
Priority skills areas for working as a Dairy Farmhand include workplace health and
safety, stock handling and feeding, milking operations, using farm chemicals, farm
maintenance, machine and equipment operation. Numerous positions currently exist
throughout Victoria for Dairy Farmhands. Those interested in such positions are
advised to check newspapers for upcoming opportunities.
COURSES AND TRAINING:
Many Dairy Farmhands begin working on a dairy farm and complete the Certificate in
Agriculture Dairy Pathways.
Individuals with general agricultural experience are still able to work as a Dairy
Farmhand on a casual or full time basis.
