PROFILE OF AN AGRICULTURAL SCIENCE STUDENT
Growing up on a family dairy farm in Northern Victoria, I attended the local Numurkah
Secondary College. On receiving my VCE scores I realised that I did not have the
score to enter Agricultural Science.
Just after the second round of tertiary placements, I was offered entry to a Diploma
of Animal Technology in Werribee. Taking this offer up, I commenced study for a year,
whilst completing an extra Year 12 subject.
At the end of the first year I obtained good marks and received notification of entry
to the Bachelor of Applied Science in Agriculture at Dookie.
Currently I am finishing up my final twelve months of the course, majoring in the
dairy industry. This has led me to a work placement at Murray Dairy, and a fourth
year project into a big issue for the industry - reproduction.
I have always wanted to be involved in Agriculture, and perceive the dairy industry to
have a bright future, with the industry currently going through a good period of
growth, due to its healthy export markets.
I believe the future of the dairy industry is moving in an ever increasingly positive
direction, and if promoted right, could prove to be an industry with very interesting
career prospects for young people of all backgrounds.
