PROFILE OF AN AGRICULTURAL SCIENTIST
I went to school at Catholic Regional College in Geelong. I developed a keen interest
in dairy cattle as a result of getting involved in a family stud dairy operation.
I completed my degree at Melbourne University under a cadetship with the Department of
Natural Resources and Environment (NRE).
I went on a three-month trip to Canada to study the Canadian dairy industry and it was
here that my interest in dairy genetics was fuelled. My degree work led to my current
posistion at NRE. After a year of "learning to be a scientist", I aim to do my PhD.
Currently I am working in research that aims to identify genes that affect milk production
in dairy cattle. The results may be used in the selection of animals for breeding purposes
in the future.
